WEX is a commerce and payments platform organized around three businesses: fuel cards and fleet management, business payments, and employee benefits administration. On the fleet side it runs one of the largest fuel card networks (used by 20 million business vehicles, expanding into EV charging), while its payments arm handles virtual cards, accounts payable automation, and processing, and its benefits arm administers HSAs, FSAs, and COBRA for employers. It sells to businesses of all sizes plus financial institutions and benefits partners, serving roughly 64,000 customers worldwide. Founded in the 1980s, it is a large publicly traded company with several thousand employees and a stated purpose of simplifying the operational and financial complexity of running a business.
