Strategic Product Manager
Surge AIThis Product Manager role focuses on building scalable systems for an AI/ML platform. You will bridge the gap between customer needs, internal operations, and engineering to improve model performance.
What you’d own
- Customer-centric product development and account management
- Scalable systems and processes for customer support
- Data-driven insights to improve customer models
- Project execution across engineering and operations teams
Who it’s for
A fit if you…
- ✓You have experience navigating high-ambiguity environments
- ✓You possess strong analytical skills and can perform competitive analysis
- ✓You are skilled at coordinating cross-departmental project teams
- ✓You have a deep interest in AI systems and safety
Not for you if…
- ✗You prefer clearly defined roadmaps over ambiguous, evolving projects
- ✗You prefer pure product discovery over operational execution and account management
- ✗You prefer a specialized role rather than one requiring frequent pivoting between customer calls and internal operations
Reading between the lines
- The requirement to 'pivot' between customer calls and operations suggests a high-touch, hands-on role where you are the primary interface for client issues.
- The mention of 'high-ambiguity' and 'rapidly scaling' implies that processes are likely being built while they are being used.

ABOUT US
Our mission is to raise AGI with the richness of human intelligence — curious, witty, imaginative, and full of unexpected brilliance.
Surge was founded by engineers and researchers who dreamed of building the next generation AI. We're building a platform that powers the most powerful models in the world in partnership with companies like Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, and Meta.
At Surge, we believe the path to AGI isn't just about scaling compute—it's about embracing the unlimited ceiling of human intelligence and creativity in the data that shapes these systems. Our platform combines elite human expertise with cutting-edge tools for scalable oversight, from building rich RL environments to conducting rigorous evaluations that go beyond benchmarks. We've run a profitable business from day one without raising venture funding.
THE ROLE
As a Strategic Product Manager at Surge, you'll lead initiatives that directly impact our products and our customers. You'll collaborate closely with engineering and operations teams’ to solve our most complex challenges. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in rapidly scaling, high-ambiguity environments. You should be able to seamlessly pivot between daily customer calls, detailed execution in operations and product, and strategic business development conversations.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Drive customer-centric product development by deeply understanding pain points and delivering impactful solutions, while overseeing project execution and account management activities.
- Establish and expand scalable systems, products, and processes to enhance customer support and value delivery, coordinating with engineering to implement necessary features.
- Gather and leverage data-driven insights to improve customer models and our ability to consistently enhance their performance.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Experience in product management or related roles within high-performing product companies, with a proven track record of navigating ambiguity and executing complex projects.
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven approach, coupled with experience in market research, competitive analysis, and deriving actionable product insights.
- Deep interest in AI systems (direct AI/ML experience valued but not required) and excellent project management skills, including the ability to oversee project teams and collaborate effectively across departments.
- A commitment to making the next generation of AI models safer and more useful.
About Surge AI
See all roles →Surge AI provides human-generated training data for AI labs, including expert-written and expert-reviewed data, benchmarks, and reinforcement learning environments, with a workforce of domain experts behind it. Its customers are companies building frontier models, and it also sells off-the-shelf datasets and RL environments. Public reports describe a company that grew without outside capital, though recent coverage mentions a first raise in talks. The mission pitch is unusually philosophical, about raising AGI with the richness of human intelligence rather than just making it smart. For a PM, the interest is a marketplace and tooling business where data quality is the product.
