Principal Product Manager, Customer (Back Office)
GigawattThis Principal Product Manager role focuses on building an AI-native customer platform for the utility industry. You will own the complex back-office transactional workflows including payments, billing, and service orders.
What you’d own
- Service orders: start, stop, and transfer workflows
- Payments and billing interactions across self-service and call centers
- Cross-channel workflows with shared context and reliable data
- Exception handling and recovery paths for failed transactions
Who it’s for
A fit if you…
- ✓You have 8+ years of experience in back-office or call center products.
- ✓You have a track record in payments, billing, or enterprise order management.
- ✓You can translate complex SME input into technical requirements for engineering.
- ✓You are comfortable navigating early-stage ambiguity and evolving ownership.
Not for you if…
- ✗You prefer 'happy path' product management over complex edge-case handling.
- ✗You prefer a narrow, stable scope rather than an evolving, multi-faceted role.
- ✗You lack experience in high-volume, high-reliability transactional systems.
Reading between the lines
- The mention of 'compressed timelines' and 'moving fast' suggests a high-pressure execution environment.
- The requirement to decide what is 'out of scope' and 'stand behind the decision' implies significant autonomy and responsibility for trade-offs.
- The focus on 'exception handling' and 'consequential system decisions' indicates a role where technical accuracy and reliability are prioritized over just UI/UX.

About Gigawatt
See all roles →Gigawatt sells a modular, AI-native software suite to electric and gas utilities, covering customer engagement across call center, web and mobile, billing, and field service and crew orchestration. The pitch is modernizing utilities one module at a time through a shared data layer, without replacing legacy core systems. Customers are utilities, and the team describes itself as early-stage, with small teams that own decisions. Roles are remote in the US, and a PM would work on regulated, operationally heavy products where the users are call center agents, billing staff and field crews.
