Taxwell is the parent company of TaxAct and Drake Software, two tax preparation businesses serving different audiences. TaxAct handles do-it-yourself filers, while Drake sells software to tax professionals. The company says it reaches over 3 million DIY filers, more than 100,000 tax professionals, and 24 million filings a year. Both brands are owned by the private equity firm Cinven, which combined them under the Taxwell name in 2023. It is now positioning itself around using AI to reshape tax experiences, which gives PMs room to rethink a seasonal, compliance-heavy product.
