This Director-level role oversees platform experience for a multi-product design tool. You will lead teams responsible for shared user experiences, multiplayer collaboration, and the internal design system.

What you’d own

  • Shared user experiences across the product suite
  • Multiplayer and collaborative experiences
  • Internal design system (Figma Pattern Library)

  • ✓You have experience driving sweeping changes across multiple groups
  • ✓You possess strong systems thinking and high-quality UX judgment
  • ✓You excel at navigating scale, ambiguity, and technical complexity

Not for you if…

  • ✗You prefer working in a siloed team rather than across organizational boundaries
  • ✗You prefer a clearly defined roadmap over driving strategy in ambiguous environments
  • ✗You are looking for an individual contributor role without people management responsibilities

Reading between the lines

  • The emphasis on 'multi-product platform' and 'cross-group' impact implies you will spend significant time negotiating trade-offs with other product teams.

Figma is a collaborative design tool where product, design, and engineering teams create interfaces, prototype interactions, and review designs in a shared browser-based canvas. Unlike traditional design software, Figma is multiplayer by default — multiple people can edit the same file simultaneously — which has made it the standard for cross-functional product teams. The company also offers FigJam, a whiteboarding tool for workshops and planning sessions. Figma was acquired by Adobe in 2022 but the deal was abandoned in late 2023 due to regulatory opposition; the company has since refiled for an independent IPO. Figma has an extremely strong culture of product craft and design excellence.
