Director, Product Management - Job Ingestion

BOLD

This Director of Product Management role focuses on the data infrastructure powering a global job discovery platform. You will lead the strategy for high-volume data ingestion, parsing, and normalization.

What you’d own

  • Enterprise job acquisition and processing strategy
  • Web scraping, API feed integrations, and ATS connections
  • Data quality governance (schema validation, spam detection)
  • Mentoring and coaching a team of product managers

Who it’s for

A fit if you…

  • ✓You have 8-10+ years of experience leading large-scale data platforms or ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • ✓You possess deep technical roots in data engineering, systems architecture, or infrastructure.
  • ✓You can translate complex technical metrics into executive-level business narratives.

Not for you if…

  • ✗You prefer a pure people-management role without individual contributor responsibilities.
  • ✗You prefer working on consumer-facing UI/UX rather than backend data infrastructure.
  • ✗You lack the technical depth to partner credibly with principal data engineers.

Reading between the lines

  • The 'player/coach' designation and mention of 'individual contributor at times' suggests a lean team where you must still be hands-on with technical execution.
  • Emphasis on 'executive storytelling' and 'board presentations' indicates high visibility to leadership and a need for strong political navigation.

Full job description

We are looking for a Director, Product Management – Job Ingestion to own and drive our enterprise job acquisition and processing strategy. You will serve as the strategic product leader bridging technical data systems with core business growth levers. In this role, you will lead the evolution of our web scraping, API feed integrations, ATS (Applicant Tracking System) connections, real-time event processing, and job parsing/normalization architectures across all BOLD web properties.

The ideal candidate does not require domain experience in recruitment technology or HR tech, but must bring a strong background in data engineering or data systems (e.g., former Data Engineer, Systems Architect, or Technical Data PM). This is a player/coach role and you should be skilled at driving outcomes as an individual contributor at times. You will leverage your technical depth to partner credibly with principal data engineers while applying strong business judgment and executive storytelling to connect job inventory health, latency, and quality directly to platform engagement, SEO footprint, and monetization.

About this team Job Ingestion is the foundational engine that powers BOLD’s entire job discovery and recruitment platform. Our mission is to build, scale, and optimize high-throughput, enterprise-grade ingestion systems that aggregate, parse, normalize, and index millions of job postings daily across all BOLD properties and partner feeds. By transforming high-volume, unstructured job data into rich, standardized job entities, our team enables critical downstream capabilities – most notably powering Search Match, job alerts, SEO landing pages, recommendations, and employer analytics.

We operate at the intersection of Data Engineering, Core Infrastructure, Search Match, and Enterprise GTM to ensure job content is accurate, fresh, comprehensive, and instantly accessible to job seekers globally. What you'll do Own Enterprise Strategy ROI: Define and execute the multi-year Job Ingestion strategy, directly linking job processing improvements – scraping, ATS feeds, parsing, deduplication, and schema mapping – to downstream search relevance, candidate engagement, and business growth.

Executive Storytelling Alignment: Translate technical data concepts (pipeline latency, schema health, ATS stability) into executive-ready business narratives and clear investment proposals for leadership. Cross-Functional Partnership: Build trust and alignment across matrixed teams, including Data Engineering, Search Match, SEO, Portal, Mobile, and Job Alerts, to ensure seamless integration of normalized job content into all downstream surfaces. Operational Technical Execution: Lead cross-functional squads (data engineers, PMs, QA) to drive predictable delivery, establishing rigorous metrics for pipeline uptime, parsing accuracy, deduping precision, and data freshness.

Data Quality Governance: Establish schema validation, content freshness, spam/scam detection, and compliance standards to maintain high job catalog health without breaking downstream search indices. Team Development Product Rituals: Coach and mentor product managers in business sense and executive communication, while establishing operational rituals that drive velocity and clarity. What you'll need 8–10+ years of product management experience (or equivalent technical leadership experience) leading complex, large-scale data platforms, ETL/ELT pipelines, scraping/crawling engines, or event-driven data architectures.

Deep Data Background: Strong technical depth in data engineering foundations (e.g., former Data Engineer, Systems Architect, or Technical PM in data platforms). Hands-on familiarity with structured/unstructured data extraction, schema design, distributed processing, and cloud ecosystem components (AWS, GCP, Kafka, Snowflake). Proven Executive Presence: Exceptional communication and storytelling skills—able to synthesize complex data pipeline challenges into clear business impact for executive leadership and board presentations.

Cross-Functional Leadership: Skilled at operating in highly matrixed environments, driving alignment between core data teams and consumer/GTM product teams. People Leadership: Demonstrated success coaching, mentoring, and guiding technical product managers to build strong talent pipelines and high-performing teams. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Quantitative Analysis, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).

What's good to have Prior Engineering Role: Direct experience as a Data Engineer, Software Engineer, or Data Architect prior to transitioning into Product Management. Large-Scale Web Scraping Ingestion: Direct experience building or operating large-scale web crawling infrastructure, multi-tenant API aggregators, or enterprise catalog processing systems Search ML Literacy: Understanding of how ingested, normalized data feeds directly into downstream AI/ML models, vector databases, or search engines (e.g., Elasticsearch, vector embeddings).
