Full job description
Location Type: Remote Location: New York Employment Type: FullTime Department: Product ABOUT CANALS Canals is a fully remote, profitable startup transforming the industrial supply chain ($10T industry) with AI. Our platform seamlessly integrates with the systems distributors already use, automating tedious tasks and reducing failure points in moving physical goods across the globe. We’re a 100 person team (60 in engineering) distributed across North and South America. THE ROLE We’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to join Canals as an early member of our growing product team. This role will focus on building the payment and financial infrastructure layer that powers transactions across our platform. You’ll help shape how money moves through complex operational workflows, working closely with engineering and external payment providers to create seamless, reliable experiences for businesses and their customers. We need someone who can balance systems thinking with strong product intuition — someone who understands that payments products require both technical depth and exceptional user experience. The ideal candidate thinks deeply about onboarding, trust, reconciliation, compliance tradeoffs, conversion, and reducing operational friction in high-stakes financial workflows. You should be the kind of PM who enjoys simplifying complexity. Someone who can take complicated transaction flows, payment operations, and financial edge cases and turn them into intuitive product experiences that users trust. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Own and help define the strategy for payments and financial infrastructure across the platform - Work closely with engineering on payment architecture, provider integrations, onboarding flows, and transaction systems - Partner with external payment providers and platforms to support evolving product capabilities - Design intuitive payment experiences that prioritize trust, clarity, reliability, and operational efficiency - Deeply understand user workflows and identify friction points across onboarding, payments, payouts, and transaction visibility - Translate complex operational and financial requirements into clearly defined product specs and scalable systems - Balance speed, risk, compliance considerations, and user experience in product decision-making - Help define metrics around transaction success, onboarding conversion, operational efficiency, and payment adoption - Collaborate cross-functionally across product, engineering, operations, and leadership to drive execution WHAT YOU’LL BRING - Typically 4+ years of product management experience, preferably in B2B SaaS, fintech, payments, or platform products - Experience working with payment processors, PSPs, merchant onboarding systems, or financial infrastructure products - Strong understanding of transaction flows, payment operations, onboarding experiences, or financial workflow design - Ability to simplify technically complex systems into intuitive user experiences - Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across technical and non-technical stakeholders - High ownership mindset with the ability to operate independently in fast-moving environments - Experience working with early-stage teams or fast-paced startups - Strong product intuition around trust, reliability, operational workflows, and user behavior in financial products   WHY JOIN CANALS - Real-world impact: your work improves global supply chains, saving customers time and reducing risk. - Strong engineering culture: we invest in quality and documentation to keep moving fast sustainably. - Remote-first, flexible work environment across North and South America. - Strong product-market fit with tons of customer love. - Talent dense team with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Canals.ai is an equal opportunity employer. In addition to EEO being the law, it is a policy that is fully consistent with our principles. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to status as a protected veteran or a qualified individual with a disability, or other protected status such as race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, pregnancy or age.

About Canals

See all roles →

Canals builds AI software for the industrial supply chain — automating sales order entry, AP, PO tracking, quoting, and part-number conversion from messy inputs like emails, PDFs, and handwritten notes. The customer base is manufacturers, distributors, and contractors (100+ distributors so far), with named users including Werner and Revere. The company was founded in 2022, says it is profitable and bootstrapped, and remains 90% employee-owned, and pitches a 'no hype cycles, no constant pivots' culture aimed at builders who like tangible operations problems. For a PM it's an unusually concrete brief: AI applied to a non-glamorous, paper-heavy industry where the workflows are well-defined.
